PDFPrintE-mail

Have you ever wondered how much of a certain crop you should plant? Of course every family is different, with different likes and dislikes but there are some general guild lines to follow. You can add and subtract as your families tastes dictate.

Yield per 10' Row

  • Asparagus will yield 3-4# of tender asparagus when spaced 18 inches apart in the row
  • Artichoke will yield 1 large and 2 small chokes per plant when spaced 3 feet apart in the row
  • Bush beans will yield 3-6# of beans when spaced 2 inches apart in the row
  • Pole beans will yield 4-10# of beans when spaced 4 inches apart in the row
  • Cantaloupe will yield 3-6 melons per plant when spaced 3 feet apart in the row
  • Corn will yield 10-20 ears when spaced 12 inches apart in the row
  • Cucumbers will yield 15 cukes per plant when spaced 3 feet apart in the row
  • Eggplant will yield 10-20 fruits when spaced 18 inches apart in the row
  • Peppers will yield 6-10# of peppers when spaced 18 inches apart in the row
  • Summer squash will yield 7-10# of yummy squash when spaced 3 feet apart in the row
  • Winter squash will yield 8-15# of sweet squash when spaced 3 feet apart in the row
  • Tomatoes will yield 20-40# of juicy delightfulness when spaced 3 feet apart in the row
  • Watermelon will yield 1-3 melons per plant when spaced 3 feet apart in the row

If you are planting in a small space it is more efficient to use wide rows rather than single rows. Remember too, that Less is More! Your plants will grow and produce better if they are not crowded and stressed out. That's this week's tip from the potting bench, have a great gardening week
